Monarch Memo: Sept 6 - 9th, 2016

Monarch Memo
September 6 - 9, 2016
Military/Staff Appreciation Night, Sept 9th.

KUDOS to all staff for providing parents a warm welcome on Back to School Night. The performances by our band and cheer were a great hit as well as our fabulous MV burger stand courtesy of Bill Sullivan and his hardworking team.  Thanks to the ASB who are at the heart of all that went on last week.  It was great to see so many dedicated staff members at the Assembly on Friday supporting our students and showing their spirit.  Community Night at the football game was well attended and drew a good crowd to honor CalFire and watch Los Toros football.  Thank you everyone for your part in making last week a great one.

What’s New?
Your feedback is valuable.
Now that we have complete the first three weeks of school and Back to School Night, most staff have settled into the school year routine.  As I shared at our opening days, I wish I had the summer to get to meet and connect with you.  In order to help me get a feel for our MV campus I am asking staff to complete a very brief survey by Friday, Sept. 15th.  You are welcome to complete this in Google Forms, email or handwritten and turned into Denise. I will be sending it out to you this week. I truly appreciate your time and assistance in helping me learn more each day about our wonderful school.

D/F Monitoring and Advisory
See last week’s email from Amanda Engstrand for directions on how to post grades.
This week marks week 4 of this school year and it time for our first round of D/F monitoring. The window for the first 4- week grades will open this Tuesday morning (9/6) and close Monday morning (9/12). No conduct grades are needed for this grading cycle as it is D/F monitoring. These grades will be used to place students into the first Advisory cycle.
In order to ensure that teachers who are giving tests on Friday Sept 9th have time to grade and include those exams in our 4 week D/F monitoring we are going to take the grade snapshot on Monday morning at 8am. Please make sure to have all of your D/F monitoring grades entered by 8am on Monday Sept. 12th. Freshmen Advisory will end on Friday Sept. 9th and a huge thank you to the 20 teachers that have stepped up and made our new Monarchs feel welcome. Because we are keeping the grading window open until Monday we will start our new advisory cycle on Wednesday September 14th. Tuesday will be an all school extended lunch.
