REMINDERS
- Field trips/Excuse lists
School policy states that field trips/excuse lists, with the exception of athletics, must be SENT OUT to staff a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the field trip date. We have been a bit lax in following this protocol, but we are enforcing it immediately. If you have a field trip planned and it is turned in late, it will not be approved by admin. Please note that the excuse list needs to go out 2 weeks prior to the date which means you must be organized and get your information to admin before 2 weeks prior to the activity.
- Cell phone policy
Beginning Wednesday, March 8th, students will be allowed to use their cell phones on campus
before school, break, lunch, after school, and during passing periods. Please continue to call
for campus security to pick up any phones you confiscate during instructional time. This
discussion and decision went through Core Cabinet and Site Governance, so if you have any
questions, please see admin or your department chair.
- The 9 week grading period is open and will close on Monday 3/13 at 8:00 a.m. Although we will not use these grades for Advisory placement due to Smarter Balance Testing and Spring Break there are many groups on campus (counselors, coaches, EL, CEIS, AVID, Admin) who use these grades to monitor students, so please make every efforts to upload your grades during the window.
- Short on Chromebooks for new students We've had an unusually high number of new students come in last week, and Laura is fresh out of Chromebooks. We are working on getting more. Please be understanding to new students who may not have access for a few days.
- Anessa is looking for one male and one female senior candidate to nominate for the Jack Mashin Scholarship athletic scholarship. Criteria includes dedication to the sports, financial need, leadership, sportsmanship and overall contribution to our school. Please provide suggestions to Anessa by March 17th.
Monarchs in Action
Parent message sent home on Sunday, March 5, 2017
Good Evening Monte Vista families, this is Principal Minjares with announcements for the week of
March 13, 2017.
Daylight savings time is here. Thank you for setting your clocks ahead. Now there is more daylight to enjoy our Spring Sports. Our next PTSA meeting in tomorrow night, March 13 at 6:00 p.m. in the library. We hope you can join us.
Your student likely shared with you that our cell phone use policy has changed. Since Chromebooks are allowed to be used before school, during passing periods and breaks, we are now allowing students to use their cell phones as well. Classroom use of phones is not permitted unless the teacher allows them for educational purposes.
We have a NO hoods and hats policy that we enforcing throughout the school day. We appreciate your support of this policy by reminding your student at home.
The Monarch Theater production Once Upon a Mattress begins this week. The show runs March 16 - 18th and 23rd - 25th in the Little Theatre. Tickets are $7 in advance, $9 at the door and $3 for children under 9. ASB/GUHSD Theatre Student Discounts are also honored.
Just a reminder that the very last Camp Lead is March 30, through April 1st for 9th and 10th graders. This free event helps students increase their leadership and human relations skills. Applications are due Friday the 15th in the Guidance Center.
