Monarch Memo: Oct. 10 - 14, 2016

Monarch Memo
Oct. 10 -14, 2016
Pink Day - October 14

Homecoming is upon us and the Fall like weather is coming soon.  Thank you to those who took the time to vote for the Homecoming Court.  We will keep you posted on the results. It is great to see our students recognized by the media and Jahmon McClendon was recognized twice in the same week.  He finished in 2nd place for PPR’s Play of the Week (vote based results) and recognized by the U-T as Athlete of the Week.   Please congratulate him when you see him.

A big shout out to Rob Gorney and his student crew (One.org) who coordinated the fundraiser for Lexi on Friday after school.  They had a great crowd and SOLD OUT of burritos.  The bonus was that Lexi stopped by for a brief visit.  She is doing well but still needs to take it easy.  The family is very grateful for all that Monte Vista has done to support Lexi.   We appreciate Rob, One.org Sarita’s Taco Shop for making this happen. Monte Vista is a great place to be.

If you spotted the new ASB version and thought it was eye-catching, come down and buy a special school tie dye for $18 in the Finance office.  This is a pre-order sale only with limited quantities.  Sale goes until Homecoming.  Delivery of shirts is 2 weeks after Homecoming.

Good Evening Monte Vista Families, this is Principal Minjares with a weekly update

The location of our PTSA Meeting for tomorrow night,  Oct. 10 at 6:00 p.m. has changed.
We will be meeting at the Measure BB campaign headquarters which is located at Grossmont Mall in the former location of Shakey's Pizza (next to the Verizon store). Please join us at 6:00 p.m.

Friday, October 14 is Pink Day.  Please dress in your pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness.

Halloween is coming up at the end of the month.  Although we allow students to dress up, we have defined guidelines for what students are allowed to wear. Students must follow all dress code guidelines. The costume must be in good taste and not be offensive or discriminate in any fashion.  For safety reasons, students may not wear masks or wear face paint that covers the entire face.  Costume props that can be used or perceived as weapons are not allowed.  Sturdy shoes must be worn.  We are sharing this information weeks in advance so families are well aware of the rules.  If your student has any questions about what they are planning to wear, please have them speak to their Assistant Principal for prior approval.

Just a reminder that signing up for the PSAT on Oct. 19th is now open to all grades. Registration is free, Sign up now in the Finance Office.

Remember to wear your college t-shirts or sweatshirts on Thursdays and this week wear PINK on Friday.  Don’t forget to get your Homecoming Dance tickets now.
Have a great week Monarchs.
