Monarch Memo
October 24 - 28, 2016
Red Ribbon Week
New Advisory cycle begins Tuesday

Congratulations to our ASB and Jess Barragan for an outstanding and well attended Homecoming.  The assembly was packed with spirited Monarchs to see our court, football team and of course, our staff dance through the decades. We applaud their talent and courage to do this.  Friday night we had a packed house and saw many alumni in attendance.  The football reception to connect with Coach Carberry was a nice touch in addition to the delicious food items offered by our clubs down the midway.  For the dance, we exceeded the goal to sell 600 tickets and reached close to if not above 750 - more than half the school. Thank you to all the club advisors and staff members who made this a memorable weekend for our students.  A shout out goes to Tom, Leisa, Jen and Andre who worked
with Jess and the ASB regularly to get this all planned.

Reminders
  • The new Advisory cycle begins Tuesday. Schedules will be in teacher boxes by lunch on Monday. Distribute schedules Tuesday during period 3.  Just to plant the seed. . . .
Our goal is eventually to go PAPERLESS and not have to print advisory schedules.  Students
can check Infinite Campus on Tuesdays of a new cycle to find out where they are scheduled.
We will be looking for period 3 teachers to try this out and train our kids to do this in the future
(help us save some paper). Let us (Amanda and I) if you are willing to start doing this.  We can
talk to the students about this.  Thank you.
  • Catastrophic Leave Bank donation deadline is Monday, October 31, 2016.  They are very low this year, so if you can donate it would be appreciated.
  • Teacher Referrals -  Make sure to call home when you write a referral, and indicate that you called home in the body of the referral.  Do not write the names of other students in a referral. Type the student's name who is getting the referral in the title section of the referral.
  • Hall of Fame Game and last home football game Friday Night.  Hall of Fame reception Saturday, October 29th - ticket sales extended through Tuesday.
  • Sports Physicals at MV on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 2:00 - 4:00, $20.00.  Remind your students.

MONARCHS in action

MV makes a difference - a letter from a former student.
Dear Mr Fleming
I just wanted to thank you for being a great teacher and teaching me so much about the way a vehicle works. I've joined the army and just graduated boot camp or basic combat training it was a great experience. But anyways my job in the army is to fix helicopters and I work on the power train and the powertrain is the transmission on the helicopter. But it has the same concept as a car. When we work on the helicopter we have to do everything by the book because if we don't the helicopter will drop out of the sky or the bolt will slip out. We have to torque everything down to proper speck or else we pay the consequences. I hope you continue doing your job and all the things we do for us students I really enjoyed your class.
Sincerely. Pvt. Hernandez Jesus

The phone message sent home to parents on Sun. Oct. 23
We hope you were able to join us for our Homecoming events.  We had a packed house for our victory over El Cajon Valley with many alumni in attendance to watch our halftime Homecoming festivities and the crowning of our Queen Mariana Delgadillo.  Thanks to our ASB we had record breaking attendance of about 750 students at our Homecoming Dance on Saturday night.  Congratulations to our Andrew Gonzales who was crowned King.

This Friday is our last home football game and Hall of Fame game. The alumni who will be inducted into our Hall of Fame will be introduced at half-time.  Please join us for another great Friday night game.

Physicals for winter sports will be held on Tuesday, October 25th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the Student Support Center. The cost is $20.00, cash only. Take advantage of this service offered as a convenience only. Students may also get their physicals completed with their family doctor if they prefer. Students please remember, even if you cleared for a Fall sport, you still need to log back into the online system to change your clearance from Fall to Winter, print out the paperwork and bring it to the Student Support Center. Tryouts begin November 12th.

On Thursday, Oct. 27 there will be a Safety Forum for all parents at  Greenfield Middle School in El Cajon.  From 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. there will be food trucks available to purchase items and from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. there will be presentations and sessions on topics such as social media, cyber bullying, trends with drugs and pedestrian safety.
